Glucosamine and Degenerative Joint Disease

The Role of Glucosamine Sulfate and Chondroitin Sulfates in the Treatment of Degenerative Joint Disease.

Article Summary:
In treating arthritis, the most effective treatment would provide aid in relieving pain as well as providing some repair for the degradation of the joints involved. Various studies support the use of glucosamine sulfate in its ability to both relieve pain and provide some repair for the joint. The glucosamine is able to aid in the synthesis of the glycosaminoglycans, the hyaluronic acid which helps make the proteoglycans of the bone structure. Chondroitin aids in this by providing additional aid in synthesis for bone matter. The use of the combination of chondroitin and glucosamine seem to provide the most effective treatment for arthritis, and they are both well tolerated.
